Getting up early when you don't 'have' to can be really rewarding. But so can sleeping that extra hour! I just wrote a blog post about this same topic. Maybe you can use some of the suggestions: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/7-tips-to-get-out-of-bed/ Thanks for the blogroll link love.

Hi Mark. Great post! The non-negotiable schedule is a great point and one I should have touched on.

Apparently, doing something every day for 21 days makes it a habit. Getting up early will be hard at the start, but very quickly become easy, and after just 3 weeks could be a part of your life.

My goal is to get up and get started by 6am (5:30 would be better). I was trying the sit-up method for a while. I went so far as to move my alarm clock into the bathroom. I could sleep through it, but my wife will gouge out my eyes if I don't get up. Unfortunately I have no problem going back to sleep after getting up to turn it off.

I think the part I'm missing is going to bed before 2am.

Feel free to send suggestions to my first name @ my last name dot com

Hi Richard. Yes, going to bed at 2am is going to make getting up at 6 much harder!

I've found that once I'm up and standing it's really difficult for me to go back to sleep - unless I'm still really tired, like when I've gone to bed really really late.

Good story Richard, good to know I am not the only one who has this battle in the morning, however it seems that you have won the war where as I can not say the same.

I've found that if I set the alarm early enough, I technically get up yesterday. This makes it very difficult to go back to bed, but even if I do I still have a jump on the day.

P.S. To me, 4:30 AM is officially yesterday.

4:30am ... ouch. I've changed slightly since I wrote this. I now get up at 6am. 5:30 was great when I had a load of things to do, but I managed to get myself organised and sort out some of the larger items hanging over my head, so now need less time to get stuff done.

It is still working though - I'm up at the same time every day and feel good about it at the time.
